CES Provides Heroics Again For Cincy

Good morning Pokes. Early fall is arguably the best time of the year for sports fans.

Football is starting back up, baseball is heading to the postseason, temperatures are cooling down (well, hopefully).

One of our former Cowboys finds himself right in the middle of that postseason hunt on the diamond and we’ve got all the details and much more.

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Mama, There Goes That Man Again. If he keeps this up, he’s going to have a new nickname soon.

For the second time in a month, Christian Encarnacion-Strand called “game” for the Cincinnati Reds with another walk-off to help his team claim a half-game lead in the ever so tight National League Wild Card race.

CES is hitting .261 with six HRs, seven doubles and 21 RBIs for the Reds. In the past seven days, he’s hitting .423 with two HRs to help Cincinnati who is looking to secure its second playoff berth in the past 10 seasons.

🔼 On The Road Again... One of the most prolific offenses in the country is back on the road again tonight.

Taking a four-game win streak with them, the OSU Cowgirls head to Arkansas State in the fourth ever showdown between the two programs, but the first since 2009.

The Orange and Black have been red hot during their win streak, outscoring the past four opponents by a combined score of 19-2. Their 24 goals on the year rank fourth in the country currently.

Even more impressive? 10 different players have scored a goal and 14 have scored a point in just six games.

🔼 Diamond Girls. The hunt for a program record fifth straight trip to the WCWS starts now for the Cowgirls softball program.

OSU, who returns another loaded roster for next spring, begins its 2023 fall season this week on the practice field and soon enough will be hosting seven different home dates this fall.

🏈 RIDIN’ TO THE DESERT

If City Slickers taught us one thing, it’s the Cowboys know how to handle the desert.

That test will be on display this weekend when OSU travels to Tempe to take on future Big 12 foe Arizona State in a Saturday night showdown on FS1.

The game will make 2023 the third consecutive season that the Cowboys have played in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.

The conclusion of the 2021 season saw the Cowboys claim a Fiesta Bowl trophy with a win over Notre Dame, while OSU returned to the Valley of the Sun a year later to take on Wisconsin in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. This year's non-conference game at Arizona State will mark a third consecutive year with a trip to the desert, as well as a third different venue played in.

Let’s dive into this weekend’s matchup.

🎥 OSU MAX: COME ALONG FOR THE RIDE

The Ride is a new series taking fans behind closed doors for an all-access weekly look at Cowboy Football.

Episode 2: It is back to class as the fall semester begins. Head to class with the guys on the first day and enjoy a student-athlete experience night inside Boone Pickens Stadium.

Plus Blaine Green is more than just a football player, find out more about him as well as transfer running back Elijah Collins and what he thinks of being a part of the Oklahoma State football program.

🤔 COWBOY TRIVIA

We Got Some First Timers Here! We’ve already talked about the amount of goals being put up by the Cowgirls futbol squad.

The balanced attack is even more eye-opening when you see how many of those goal scorers entered 2023 without a collegiate goal to their resume.

That has changed very quickly for those Cowgirls.

How many of OSU’s 24 goals this season have come from players who entered this fall without a collegiate goal?.

Got a guess?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 16.

Led by junior Hannah Chance, who leads the team and ranks in the top-10 nationally, with seven, six different Cowgirls in total have scored who had previously not scored a collegiate goal.

Senior Shyann McClary, sophomore Logan Heausler, and freshmen Adelhia Ghonda, Lexi Lee and Laudan Wilson, all joined Chance in the first-timers club this fall.

🤠 Have a great day, y’all!
