Cowboy Brew 1/30: Four Of A Kind

Cowgirls Extend Win Streak To Four, Post Best Conference Start In Nearly 20 Years

Good Morning Pokes. The year was 2008.

Flo Rida had the top song on the radio. Nicolas Cage was leading the box office with the second movie in the National Treasure series. Tom Brady and the Patriots were chasing history with a perfect season (hint: Eli Manning and the Giants had other ideas).

All of that was happening the last time the Cowgirls started the Big 12 slate as good as they’ve started this season and that trend continued last night at GIA.

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below!

🔼 Four Of A Kind. The 24th-ranked OSU women’s hoops team got off to a fast start and never looked back in their return to GIA last night.

Jumping out to a 12-point lead in the first quarter, the Cowgirls held strong and picked up an 83-71 victory over visiting Arizona State to improve to 18-3 overall and 8-2 in the Big 12.

The 8-2 start in league play is the best start since the 2007-08 season when OSU also started 8-2 in conference.

Stailee Heard kept her “en fuego” status with her eighth double-double of the season, finishing with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Anna Gret Asi added 14, including four 3-pointers.

🔼 Tallen The Talent. OSU softball standout Tallen Edwards has more than just the talent she displays on the diamond.

This spring, Edwards will be a part of the NCAA x Meta NIL Empower Program as she was selected to be a part of the spring cohort.

Hosted by the NCAA and Meta, this three-month program aims to help NCAA women student-athletes enhance their name, image and likeness opportunities and prepare for life beyond sports. The NCAA x Meta NIL Empower Program is a unique initiative that helps selected student-athletes bridge the gap between college sports and professional opportunities.

Each program's cohort includes 50 women selected from more than 1,100 applicants. Athletes are chosen by Meta based on a set of criteria, including diversity across sports and divisions, current social media presence, and reasons for joining the program.

🔼 Eye On Our Guy. A week from today, the OSU men’s golf team will hit the links in Hawaii to open up their 2025 spring season.

One Cowboy will do so as one of the most talented golfers in the country as Ethan Fang was named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List on Wednesday.

The Ben Hogan Award annually awards the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer based on all collegiate, amateur and professional events over the previous 12 months. The list includes 16 seniors, 10 juniors and nine sophomores.

🎥 LOOKING AHEAD

We are just less than 200 hours away, but who’s counting!

We can tell you who is, the OSU softball squad who is amped to get the 2025 season started next week in Mexico at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge.

Yesterday, Coach Gajewski and some of the Cowgirls sat down to preview the high expectations that is set for the squad and much more.

🤔 POKES TRIVIA

In last night’s home win over Arizona State, Stailee Heard added five more 3-pointers to her season total, a place where she’s now shooting 45.4% from for the season.
