Cowboy Brew 2/3: House Defended

Pokes Dominate GIA On Court and Mats

Good Morning Pokes. Nobody comes into our house and pushes us around!

It’s a line that is repeated by coaches over and over.

This weekend, the Cowboys made sure to defend that statement and did so in a BIG WAY at GIA.

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below!

🎥 OSUMAX: FOREVER A COWGIRL

Vanessa Shippy-Fletcher, an all-time great Cowgirl who pieced together one
of the best careers in program history and the OSU hitting coach will have her number enshrined in the outfield wall of Cowgirl Stadium, joining program legends
Sandy Fischer, Michele Smith, Lauren Bay and Melanie Roche.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Crowd Pleasers. One of the largest crowds in program history went home smilin’ on Sunday.

The third-ranked OSU wrestling squad dominated #20 Missouri to the tune of 36-3 in front of 10,740 fans, marking the fifth-largest crowd in program history.

Bonus points came to the Cowboys with ease, doing so in five of their nine wins on the afternoon. The performance also maintained Oklahoma State's team bonus rate of 47.4%, which would be its best in over 90 years, and improved its point differential to +317, good for the program's highest through 12 duals since 1996-97 (+393).

The crowd marked OSU's highest ever against any team other than rivals Oklahoma, Iowa or Penn State, while also securing a season attendance average of 7,597. Despite not hosting any of those three rivals for the first time since 1948, that average is the program's highest amount on record

🔼 Pretty In Pink. It was a magical weekend all around.

On a weekend that the Cowboys honored legendary Coach Sutton as well as all those who have battled cancer, the OSU men’s hoops team rolled past visiting Utah, 81-72, on Saturday afternoon.

Bryce Thompson went 4-for-4 from long range on his way to a 20-point peformance, while Marchelus Avery came off the bench to score 17 to lead the offensive attack for the Cowboys.

🔼 Chart Climber. While most of us use the weekends to recharge and reset for the week ahead, not so for the OSU track & field squads who had a busy weekend competing at not one, but ✌️ meets this past weekend.

And they did so in record-breaking fashion!

The Pokes brought home a multitude of top-5️⃣ finishes, but the top performance went to veteran Fouad Messaoudi, who took home the top spot in the mile at the Razorback Invitational, shattering his old school record and posting the seventh-fastest time in NCAA history at 3:52.66.

🔼 Showin’ Out. Before Super Bowl week officially kicked off, much of the NFL was focused on Mobile, Alabama and the annual Reese’s Senior Bowl this past weekend.

And who got the scoring started? Ollie Gordon, of course… but not how you think!

OGII tossed a 32-yard bomb to Iowa State’s Jayden Higgins for the first TD of Saturday’s game. He finished the day with nine rushes for 33 yards and a three-yard reception to go along with his TD pass.

Collin Oliver delivered a fumble recovery, while Nick Martin and Trey Rucker both had solid showings as well for the quarter of former Pokes.

🎥 LOOKING AHEAD

We are just over 72 hours away, but who’s counting!

We can tell you who is, the OSU softball squad who is amped to get the 2025 season started THIS WEEK in Mexico at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge.

Last week, Coach Gajewski and some of the Cowgirls sat down to preview the high expectations that is set for the squad and much more.
