Maddy Hinson-Tolchard committed to Oklahoma State in November 2019 – one month after graduating high school in Perth, Australia. But she didn’t arrive on campus until January 2021. Hinson-Tolchard used those six extra months at home taking online courses at OSU and adjusting to the American school system.
Even with Australia’s strict lockdown in effect, she was able to keep her golf game sharp by playing with her family. Now a junior, college life has become what she expected when she first decided to come to the United States. She believes the challenges of her freshman season helped her grow as a person and a golfer.
Fresh off a Big 12 Championship team and individual win, she’s hoping to ride that momentum to a national title.

🔼 Stayin’ Streakin’. Per usual, the Cowboys did some winning this weekend. let’s dive into it.
The series' first game was rained out on Friday, so things took off on Saturday. Oklahoma State's win streak reached six Saturday at Ray Fisher Stadium as the 17th-ranked Cowboys defeated Michigan, 5-3, in their series opener.
Finally, they didn’t take their foot of the gas. Their win streak reached seven Sunday as the Cowboys knocked off Michigan, 8-5, at Ray Fisher Stadium.
With the win, OSU improved to 30-13, while the Wolverines fell to 21-20.
OSU returns to action Tuesday with a trip to Tulsa to take on Oral Roberts.
🔼 Fe Fi Fo Fourty. The Cowgirls also took care of business this weekend in a battle with Texas Tech. Let’s talk about that.
The No. 7/7 Oklahoma State softball team notched its 40th win of the season in game one of its doubleheader at Texas Tech Saturday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field. They fell in game two.
They wrapped things up with a series win. Explosive offense highlighted the No. 7/7 Oklahoma State Softball team's run-rule victory over Texas Tech, 8-0, to clinch the series win, Sunday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field.
Win the win, OSU moved to 41-9 and 10-5 in Big 12 play, while Texas Tech moved to 31-21 and 5-13 against conference opposition.
The Cowgirls will be back in the Lone Star State on Wednesday for a midweek contest at North Texas on May 3; first pitch against the Mean Green is set for 6 p.m. CT.
🔼 Pro Pokes. Former Oklahoma State football players Tyler Lacy and Jason Taylor II were selected at the 2023 NFL Draft Saturday, as Lacy was chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 130th overall pick in the fourth round and Taylor was picked by the Los Angeles Rams with the 234th pick in the seventh round.
With those selections, Oklahoma State became one of just four Big 12 teams and 30 FBS teams with at least two defensive players picked. OSU's five total defensive players picked over the past two NFL Drafts ties for the most in the Big 12 and the eighth-most in the FBS.
Several other Cowboys from last year's roster are expected to earn opportunities to compete for spots on NFL rosters in the coming days.
🔼 Free Falling. Oklahoma State distance runners erased three program records on the final day of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Penn., with sprinters and jumpers capping off an impressive showcase at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday.
Three Cowgirls from Friday's OSU outdoor record-breaking Distance Medley Relay squad returned for the 4x1,500 Meter Relay, as they once again put forth a solid effort and another second-place finish. OSU ran stride-for-stride with Providence finishing within one second of each other.
The Cowboys competed in a pair of events, the 4xMile and the 4x800 Meter Relays, where both respective outdoor school records fell. Overall, the Cowboys finished the Mile Relay in 16:15.17 while scoring a 7:15.13 finish in the 4x800.
At the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Texas, Saara Hakanen highlighted the day with her victory in the High Jump. She cleared a height of 1.77 meters and was the only competitor to overcome a 1.74-meter jump. For Hakanen, it's her first event victory since last year's John Jacobs Invitational and the fourth of her career.
Up next for the Cowboys and Cowgirls is the Arkansas Twilight, where OSU has historically been successful and is the last chance in the regular season for athletes to earn regional qualifying marks.
