Cowboy Brew 9/26: Bounce Back Time

Cowboys, Cowgirls Return To Field Ready to Bounce Back

Good Morning OSU Fam. All those years ago, Chumbawamba had it right.

Might get knocked down, but we’ll get up again.

That’s what the Pokes are looking to do this weekend as the football and soccer squads hit the fields looking for bounce back opportunities.

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew? Check it out below!

🏈 BOUNCE BACK TIME

As Kelly Clarkson told as many years ago, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

The 20th-ranked Cowboys will be looking to show just that as they head to the Little Apple for a second-straight top-25 showdown.

On the docket for the Pokes, a big time road test at #23 Kansas State.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Movin’ On. Last fall, Ange Oby Kajuru burst onto the scene earning All-American accolades and reaching the doubles final at the ITA Fall All-American Championships, just to name a few of her accomplishments.

This year, the Cowgirl isn’t sneaking up on anyone and that’s ok with her.

On Wednesday, Kajuru continued her success, punching her ticket to the Round of 32 in the main draw with a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) thriller over Texas’ Ashton Bowers.

🔼 In Good Company. You never know how an athlete is going to bounce back from injuries.

We’d have to say 22.7 ppg, 7.5 apg and 4.3 rpg isn’t too shabby.

That’s how Cade Cunningham bounced back in 2023-24 for the Pistons after missing nearly all of the previous year. For his efforts, the former All-American at OSU was ranked in the top-50 of all NBA players in the preseason rankings by CBS Sports.

Entering the 2024-25 season, Cunningham has a new coach and is looking to make even more strides in his third full season in the league

🔼 Leading The Way. Four weeks into his final year of collegiate football, Alan Bowman was recognized among the nation’s best.

This week, the OSU quarterback was named a semifinalist for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy.

Celebrating its 35th year, the Campbell Trophy is football's premier scholar-athlete award and recognizes one's combined success in academics, football performance and exemplary leadership. Candidates must be a senior who will complete his final year of eligibility in the 2024 season or a graduate student who already earned a degree and have a GPA of at least 3.2, outstanding football ability as a significant contributor and strong leadership.

Through four games of the 2024 season, Bowman has completed 91 of 145 passes for 1,173 yards and 10 touchdowns. Bowman's best performance thus far came on the road against Tulsa, throwing for nearly 400 yards and five touchdowns and earning him Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week honors.

In addition to his performance on the field, Bowman has excelled off it throughout his entire career, including a spot on the CSC Academic All-District Team last season and a pair of Academic All-Big 12 selections while at Texas Tech.
