Cowboy Brew 9/30: Running Wild

Top-Ranked Cowboys Put On A Show at Annual Jamboree

Good Morning OSU Fam. They may not have been born when the Energizer Bunny was all over TVs, but the OSU men’s cross country team takes after that cultural icon from the 90s…

We’ll recap a jam-packed weekend and more in today’s Brew! Check it out below!

🔼 Running Wild. Welp, if there was any doubt about the #1 ranking next to the OSU men’s cross country team, that ranking was absolutely certified this weekend.

Taking on a field that included four top-25 teams, including #8 New Mexico, the Cowboys dominated the course en route to a 26-point victory, scoring just 19 points on the day.

Sophomore sensation Brian Musau led the way with a record-setting performance, blowing away the old 8k course record by nearly 10 seconds.

Laban Kipkemboi, Denis Kipngetich, Victor Shitsama and Ryan Schoppe placed third-through-sixth on the day to give the Cowboys 19 points as a team. Kipkemboi's time of 23:19.0 ranks fifth in course history and Kipngetich's time of 23:21.0 is ninth in course history.

As a team, the victory was the 27th for the Cowboys in Jamboree history and their second in a row. Musau is also the 23rd Cowboy to win the individual and the fourth different Cowboy in the last four years to do so (Rodriguez in 2021, Alex Maier in 2022 and Kipngetich in 2023).

🔼 Give ‘Em A Hundo. The OSU cross country squads weren’t the only ones running wild this past weekend.

Former Cowboy Chuba Hubbard did the same with yet another big time performance on Sunday, piling up 104 rushing yards, a rushing TD and 17 receiving yards.

It marks the first time in his four NFL seasons that Hubbard has surpassed 100+ rushing yards in back-to-back weeks.

🔼 Point Taken. When it comes to conference play, picking up points on the road is always a good thing.

The 23rd-ranked brought home their second straight point on Sunday, battling the Utes of Utah to a scoreless draw.

Grace Gordon knocked down four saves, including several crucial ones late in the contest en route to her seventh shutout of the season, which is already tied for the fifth most in a single-season in program history.

🔼 Ticket Punched. Don’t ask for any time for OSU’s Ange Oby Kajuru in November, she’s got some plans on her calendar.

With her victory over #81 Catherine Aulia, 7-5, 6-2, Kajuru earned an automatic bid to November’s championships at Baylor and advanced to the ITA All-American quarterfinals, where she dropped a tough three-set decision to North Carolina’s Tatum Evans.

🔼 The Fight Goes On. Winning on the road in this conference is never easy.

That was evident this past weekend when the Cowboys dropped a 42-20 decision at #23 Kansas state on Saturday afternoon in Manhattan.

De’Zhaun Stribling had seven catches for 157 yards and a TD, while Alan Bowman tossed for 361 yards for OSU. Ollie Gordon II got going early with 72 yards in the first quarter, but KSU clamped down and only allowed four more yards the rest of the game to the star running back.

Trey Rucker and Nick Martin once again led the defensive effort with 18 combined tackles for the Cowboys.

🏀 SAVE THOSE DATES

You’ve waited months and now you can fill in those
calendars for some nights at GIA this winter!

Late last week, the Big 12 released not one but TWO full conference hoops
schedules as the 20-game men’s schedule and 18-game women’s
schedule were unveiled for the first time.
