Daton Fix Makes History at Big 12 Championships

Good Morning Cowboys and Cowgirls. You know those trips that you go on and you always end up coming back with more than you packed?

The OSU track & field and wrestlings squads faced that situation this weekend, but this time, they surely didn’t mind packing the extra hardware for the trip back to Stillwater.

We’ll recap a busy weekend for the Orange & Black in today’s Brew! Check it out below!

🔺 Five For Fix. History. Made.

The Big 12 has a rich history of college wrestling. On Sunday, a new chapter in that history book was made as Daton Fix became the FIRST 🖐 time champion.

He was already just the 10th wrestler in Oklahoma State history to win four conference titles, and now he is the only one to win five.

With the addition of the title, OSU now has 121 Big 12 individual championships and 296 conference individual championships in its wrestling history.

Fix’s individual title helped the Cowboys earn a second-place overall finish.

🔺 Cardiac Cowgirls. One thing is for sure, Coach Gajewski might have a few less fingernails, but plenty of smiles after this weekend.

The seventh-ranked OSU softball squad picked up two HUGE road wins, winning the opening Big 12 series with two-of-three against #14 Baylor. Both victories came in comeback fashion, including an extra win in the series opener on Friday.

Offense was at a premium as the two teams combined to score only 12 runs the entire weekend with the hurlers from both squads being dominant.

🔺 More Brooms, Please. Another weekend. Another sweep.

At this rate, the #1 ranked OSU women’s tennis squad is going to need a few new brooms pretty soon. Following up their road win at Texas Tech on Thursday, the Cowgirls traveled to Utah and took down top-40 BYU, 5-2, for yet another Big 12 victory.

The Orange & Black are now 15-0 this season and have 13 wins over teams ranked in the top-40 nationally.

🔺 Clear Some Room In The Trophy Case. This is a trip that the OSU track & field squads don’t mind the extra hardware in their suitcases on the flight home.

For the first time in school history, BOTH the men’s and women’s squad finished in the top-10 at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The Cowboys came in seventh, while the Cowgirls landed in eighth in the final standings.

Highlighting the Weekend was the men’s DMR team that brought home its second straight national title.

In total, the Orange & Black had earned 17 All-American accolades at the event.

🔺 Bearin’ Down. Facing off against one of the top mid-major programs in the country, the OSU baseball squad showed it’s grit, taking two of three from the visiting Bears of Mercer.

Much like the softball squad, the arms were on display as both teams combined for 18 runs on the weekend with the Cowboys taking victories of 4-2 in the opener and 4-3 in the series finale on Sunday.

OSU sophomore outfielder Haidyn Sokoloski takes you behind the scenes of the Cowgirls trip through the Sunshine State.

Get an all-access pass as you get to hang out with Haidyn and her teammates during their 10 day trip to Florida for the second and third weeks of the 2024 season.
