Gordon Named Semifinalist For Three National Awards

Happy Turkey Day Eve! It appears Ollie Gordon II is one of those pre-Thanksgiving Christmas celebrators.

Why, you ask? Well, OG2 is making all sorts of lists and we already know he’s been very nice this year.

Find out more about those lists and go inside the film room with Coach Gundy!

🎥 OSU MAX: INSIDE THE FILM ROOM

Thanksgiving and football. Almost as synonymous as turkey and stuffing.

No better appetizer than jumping in the film room with Coach Gundy.

Coach sits down to take us in depth with last week’s road 43-30 win at Houston.

He breaks down some of the best plays on offense and defense for the Cowboys in the victory.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Rollin’ On. The historic season of OG2 continues to roll on.

Entering the regular season finale this weekend at BPS, Ollie Gordon II earned spots as a semifinalist for Maxwell Award, the Doak Walker Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Award.

A three-time National Running Back of the Week award winner and four-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Gordon leads the FBS in nearly every major rushing category, including rushing yards (1,414), rushing yards per game (128.5), 200-yard rushing games (2) and carries of at least 20 yards (18), 30 yards (14), 40 yards (7) and 70 yards (2).

His performances against Kansas, West Virginia and Cincinnati made home the only FBS player in the past 10 years with 250 scrimmage yards in three straight games, and his 282 rushing yards at West Virginia are the most for any FBS player in a game this season.

🔼 Star Of Stars. With some of the country’s best wrestlers in attendance, OSU’s Izzak Olejnak continued to build his resume as a Cowboy.

Olejnak entered the night ranked #6 and battled #4 Dean Hamiti of Wisconsin, who had twice beaten him in past meetings.

The OSU star took an early lead and never let go, coming up with a huge 8-2 victory at the NWCA All-Star Classic at Penn State on Tuesday night.

🔼 20/20 Vision. With only one regular season game left, the Cowboys have 20/20 vision.

The Cowboys have been included in the CFP Rankings in four consecutive weeks, their first time doing so since being ranked in every poll of the 2021 season. OSU was No. 23 in last week's rankings before defeating Houston on Saturday.

OSU is one of four Big 12 teams included in Tuesday's rankings. Texas is the conference's highest-ranked member at No. 7, while No. 13 Oklahoma and No. 19 Kansas State round out the group. The Cowboys are currently in a three-way tie for second in the Big 12 with the Sooners and Wildcats.

🔼 Head Of Their Class. Not only do the Cowgirls star on the pitch, they also star in the classroom.

After posting 12 wins in one of the toughest conferences in the country, the OSU soccer program had SIX student-athletes earn Academic All-District.

Alex Morris, Xcaret Pineda, Megan Haines, Shyann McClarry, Mollie Breiner and Summer Chaffin all earned recognition for their hard work in the classroom.

🔼 Givin’ It The Boot. While he wasn’t alive when Three’s Company was a hit TV show, Alex Hale is surely enjoying a third trip to the Lou Groza “Star of the Week” list.

The senior from Point Frederick, New South Wales, Australia, made all three of his field goal attempts on Saturday to move up to the third-most field goals (24) and third-most field goal attempts (30) by a Cowboy in a single season. His makes came from 46, 44 and 21 yards out, and they accounted for OSU's first points of the game, three points as the clock hit zeros to close the first half and a kick to increase OSU's lead to 13 points with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. He added four PATs to account for 13 total points on the day.

Hale, who was recently named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, has kicked multiple field goals in eight games this season and he leads all FBS kickers with 24 field goals made on the year.

🏈 ONE LAST RIDE AT HOME

As millions of Americans return home for Thanksgiving break, the Cowboys are returning home as well, but this home is at BPS for a regular season finale with yet another Big 12 newcomer, the BYU Cougars.

On the line? A possible berth in the Big 12 Championship game.

With the road win over Houston this past weekend, the Orange & Black climbed to #21 in both the AP and the Coaches Poll.

With just Saturday's matchup against BYU remaining in the 2023 regular season, the Cowboys have been ranked in either the AP Top 25 or Coaches Poll entering its final game of the regular season in 10 of the past 14 seasons.
