Five More Cowboys Selected in MLB Draft

There were plenty of high fives exchanged in Stillwater on Monday as five more Cowboys saw their dreams become reality!

⚾️ HIGH FIVE

After Carson Benge got the phone call of his dreams on Sunday, five more Cowboys joined their teammate with having their dreams become a reality.

Joining Benge as MLB draft picks on Monday was Brian Holiday, Zach Ehrhard, Janzen Keisel, Robert Cranz and Sam Garcia.

Holiday was a third-round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals with the 80th overall pick, while Ehrhard was taken in the fourth round (pick 115) by the Boston Red Sox. Keisel was drafted in the sixth round (pick 186) by the Tampa Bay Rays, and Cranz was pick 200 in the seventh round by the Washington Nationals. Garcia went in the eighth round to the Milwaukee Brewers with pick 245.

🏀 HOLDING COURT

It was a record-setting year in the classroom for the OSU men’s hoops program.

The award is open to junior, senior and graduate level college basketball players across all divisions who finished the 2023-24 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

Weston Church (Sports Management), Jarius Hicklen (Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies), Brooks Manzer (Marketing) and Carson Sager (Computer Science/Electrical Engineering) represent OSU on the list.

Church and Sager both made the cut for a second straight year, while Hicklen and Manzer are first-time honorees.

⏱ COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 46 DAYS

Number of the Day: 46

Wearing #46 this fall will be Midlothian, Texas native Temerrick Johnson, a three-star edge rusher that chose America’s Brightest Orange over offers from Nebraska, Utah, Minnesota, Cal, Kansas, Houston, BYU and others.

Johnson, who enrolled early and joined the Cowboys this spring, racked up 15 sacks during his high school career, as well as 29.5 TFLs. While he played on the edge at Heritage High School, Johnson is currently working with
OSU’s linebacking group.

With Holiday and Ehrhard joining Benge as top-five round selections for the Cowboys, it marked the fourth time in program history that OSU had 3+ top-five round draft picks.

This year marked the first time since 2007 that three OSU players were taken in the first five rounds. In 2007, Matt Mangini (first round - Seattle), Corey Brown (first round - Oakland) and Tyler Mach (fourth round - Philadelphia).
