National Champs, Road Win at Houston Highlight Pokes' Big Weekend

Good Morning Pokes. And what a morning it is indeed!

In last week’s Pokes Pod, Fouad Messaoudi talked about the Cowboys’ prospects at the NCAA Championship meet. We’re not going to say we told you so, but….

Trophy #53 for the Orange & Black, a road win in Houston and more top spots on the mat?

Not too shabby, not too shabby at all!

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew! Check it out below!

🏆 No. 53
🏈 Houston, You Have A Problem
🤼‍♂️ The Show Out State
🤠 And so much more!

🏆 BRINGIN’ HOME THE NATTY

Charlottesville, Virginia was the home of Thomas Jefferson, a critical piece of our country’s history.

No better place to make some history, right?

That’s exactly what the OSU men’s cross country squad did this past weekend, capturing the fifth NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in program history and the 53rd in OSU Athletics history.

With all five runners finishing in the top 15, the Cowboys posted the best team finish since 2005 (Wisconsin) and the third-best score since 2000.

🎧 OSU MAX PODCASTS

Brennan Presley is continuing to make his name on the football field for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The senior wide receiver from Tulsa is entering the top 10 in all major receiving categories and is doing so as one of the toughest guys on the football field at only 5-8 and 175 pounds.

As the 2023 season winds down Presley leads the Cowboys in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns Learn more about Presley on and off the field in this episode of the Pokes Pod.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Houston, You Have A Problem. 14-point deficit? No problem.

A slow start certainly didn’t hinder the 24th-ranked Cowboys, who blitzed Houston in the second half en route to a 43-30 road win to improve to 8-3 and remain in contention for a spot in the Big 12 Championship game.

OG2 piled up another 150+ yard game, finishing with 164 yards and three TDs, while Alan Bowman passed for 348 yards and two TDS. Bowman loved his connection with Brennan Presley, who had a historic day, hauling in 15 passes for 189 yards, the second most highest reception total in program history.

The win by OSU keeps the Orange & Black in a three-way tie with OU and Kansas State heading into the final week of the regular season.

🔼 Podium Queens. Last year on the podium was so fun, the Cowgirls decided to do it again this fall, except a little better.

The Orange & Black earned the highest-finish in program history with a third-place team finish at the NCAA Championships meet on Saturday.

Billah Jepkirui, Molly Born and Taylor Roe earned All-American status in the process. The 156 points scored by the Cowgirls is a school record by almost 50 points and it's OSU's third top-five finish at the national meet in school history, and the second time when led by Smith.

🔼 The Show Out State. Maybe there’s a reason it’s called the Show Me State because the Cowboys definitely showed out on the mats over the weekend.

The Orange & Black claimed 15 first-place finishes across two divisions after sending 32 wrestlers to St. Charles, Mo. for the Lindenwood Open.

The tournament featured wrestlers from 11 Division I programs, three of which were ranked in Intermat's latest team tournament poll in No. 5 Missouri, No. 7 Iowa and No. 24 Illinois.

In the open division, eight attached wrestlers earned first-place finishes as the Cowboys had a finalist in nine of the ten weight class brackets.

🔼 A Jolt From Jaylen. Former Cowboy Jaylen Warren turned heads in the preseason.

Now, he’s earned his shot. This week, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin moved Warren into the starting role and boy did he show out.

Nine touches, 129 yards and a TD. That’ll work.

In this last three games, he’s had 35 carries for 318 yards and two TDs. That’s an average of 9.1 yards per carry.

We think that’s kinda good.

🔼 No Small Feat. Javon Small is showing exactly why the Cowboys were excited to get the transfer from East Carolina.

Small shined at the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center, scoring 32 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and dishing nine assists in OSU’s two games in Brooklyn.

In the OT loss to Notre Dame, Small went for career-highs in points (29) and rebounds (10).

🎥 OSU MAX: INSIDE THE FILM ROOM

Javon Small had quite a showing in the Big Apple.

Go inside the film room with Coach Boynton and Javon to talk about what he brings to the Cowboys and why he’s excited about the season as it unfolds.

🤔 COWBOY TRIVIA

Brennan Presley had quite a day on Saturday.

A historic day for himself and a near-historic day in program history.

His 15 catches were the second most in a single game in school history.

Our question to you, who holds the record and with how many?

Think you got it?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Alex Lloyd.

Honestly, we just love finding a reason to use this throwback card. Lloyd hauled in 16 receptions in a game back in 1949.

🤠 Let’s get this week started, y’all!
