Cross Country Squads Sweep 85th Annual Jamboree

Good Monday Morning Cowboys and Cowgirls. Many people use Saturday mornings to get a good run in.

The OSU cross country squads did that exact thing this past Saturday, except their pace was just a tad quicker than the rest of us.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls dominated yet again at the annual Jamboree and we’ve got plenty more updates!

What else do we have stirring in today’s Brew! Check it out below!

🎧 OSU MAX PODCASTS

Former Oklahoma State fullback, offensive lineman turned linebacker Cleveland Vann is one of just four players in school history to earn All-America honors at linebacker becoming the first to accomplish that feat in 1973.

Another accomplishment for Vann came at the end of this summer when he completed his degree at OSU fifty years after he left the campus entering the professional football world.

Learn more about Vann, his time in Canada and what it meant to earn his diploma in this edition of the Pokes Pod.

🔼 Running Wild. Entering Saturday, the OSU cross country squads had high expectations, both being ranked in the top-three nationally.

In their first full display of the 2023 season, they showed why those expectations were there, sweeping the top spots, individually and team, on both sides at the 85th Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course.

The Cowgirls secured their first team win of the season and 11th total at the Jamboree. OSU nearly had a perfect score on the day, taking the top four spots and five of the top six overall. With their win today, the Cowgirls have won eight of the last 11 Jamborees.

Billah Jepkirui led the way for the Cowgirls, taking home the win with a time of 20:28.6. Molly Born, Victoria Lagat, Cayden Dawson and Heidi Demeo rounded out the scoring for OSU, with times of 20:42.3, 20:55.0, 21:02.4 and 21:31.5, respectively.

The men's team completed the sweep as freshman Denis Kipngetich took home the individual title with a time of 23:21.5. Brian Musau, Victor Shitsama, Will Muirhead and Jonas Price rounded out the scoring for the Cowboys, clocking times of 23:41.9, 23:48.7, 24:17.1 and 24:21.9, respectively.

🔼 Connect Four. Another home game, another W.

The OSU Cowgirls are taking the saying “protect this house” quite literally this fall as they stayed unbeaten at Neal Patterson with another shutout victory, their eighth of the season, a 2-0 win over Kansas State on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomores Xcaret Pindea and Logan Heausler scored the goals for the Orange and Black, while senior Grace Gordon notched her fifth shutout of the season with three saves on the afternoon.

🔼 Showin’ Out On Sunday. In his eighth NFL season, Emmanuel Ogbah brought it home.

In Miami’s rout of Denver on Sunday, the former Cowboy grabbed his first NFL INT off Russell Wilson and set up his Dolphins teammates for yet another TD in the third quarter.

The INT came in Ogbah’s 95 NFL game and he also grabbed his first sack of the 2023 season and surpassed 250+ NFL tackles.

Former OSU standout Jaylen Warren had 52 combined yards with eight carries and three receptions in Pittsburgh’s 23-18 victory over the Raiders on Sunday Night Football.

🔼 Fight To The End. Road trips are never easy, especially in conference.

The Orange and Black fought the Cyclones of Iowa State to the wire, but fell just short in a 34-27 road game in Ames this past Saturday.

Alan Bowman threw for 278 yards on 23-of-48 passing for Oklahoma State, while Ollie Gordon II rushed for 121 yards on 18 carries.

🎥 OSU MAX: FACE-TO-FACE WITH RICKIE

This week, Rickie Fowler is heading to Rome to compete in the Ryder Cup.

Last week, he became one of the newest members inducted to the OSU Hall of Honor.

Before his big night in Stillwater recently, OSU Golf Sports Information Director Ryan Cameron had a chance to catch up with Rickie to discuss his early years in golf, playing at OSU and what his professional career has been like since leaving Oklahoma State.

Learn more about Rickie during this trip down memory lane.

🤔 COWBOY TRIVIA

Coming Back For More. The OSU Cowgirls have one of the most potent offensive attacks in the country, ranking amongst the nation’s best in goals per game for most of the 2023 season.

The scary part for the opposition is that it’s a balanced attack and they’ll be back for even more next year.

The youth of the Orange and Black have come up big this fall, including sophomores Logan Heausler and Xcaret Pineda, who both scored in Sunday’s win over K-State.

How many of OSU’s 34 goals have been scored by Cowgirls who can return for another season next fall?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 30.

We know, you might have to read that twice.

OSU has been led by a young attack, with Pineda and Heausler combining for 12 goals, while junior Hannah Chance has seven of her own as well.

To quote the Terminator said, “They’ll Be Back.”
