🏈 A NICE RING TO IT

There’s a lot of offensive coordinators and QBs that lost sleep worrying about Leslie O’Neal.

The two-time All-American terrorized opponents during his time with the Cowboys and did so at a record-setting level.

Now, the Cowboy legend will forever live in infamy at Boone Pickens Stadium.

This week, OSU announced that O’Neal will be added to the Cowboy Football Ring of Honor on September 7 when the Pokes host Arkansas.

Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2020, O'Neal anchored two of the best defenses in school history in 1984 and 1985. He was a dominant force on teams which allowed a total of just 34 touchdowns over two seasons, the lowest totals in the modern era at OSU. He was named Big Eight defensive player of the year in 1984 and earned All-Big Eight honors in each of his last three seasons as a Cowboy.

He was a first-round draft choice of the San Diego Chargers in 1986 and played until his retirement following the 1999 season. During his career, the defensive end was selected to the Pro Bowl six times, while recording 136.0 career sacks. His career sack totals still rank among the top 15 players in the history of the NFL.

O'Neal also holds membership in the OSU Athletics Hall of Honor. Now, he joins Thurman Thomas, Barry Sanders, Bob Fenimore and Terry Miller as members of the Cowboy Football Ring of Honor.

🎥 OSUMAX REWIND: FACE-TO-FACE

This past fall, O’Neal returned to Stillwater to enjoy the 40th anniversary and reunion of the 1983 Bluebonnet Bowl team.

While the OSU legend was in town, Tom Dirato caught up with O'Neal to discuss his time in Stillwater and what it is like being back after 40 years.

👏 CLASS ACTS

While fireworks were being set off around the country over the weekend, two Cowboys had other reasons to celebrate.

Senior Alex Maier of the OSU men’s track & field program and junior Zach Ehrhard were named the Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year in their respective sports.

The award is Maier's third overall and second this season, after being winning the 2022 and 2023 Big 12 Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards. Meanwhile, Ehrhard is the first member of the OSU baseball program to ever be recognized with the award.

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 53 DAYS

Number of the Day: 53

We always love a homegrown Cowboy and that’s exactly what redshirt freshman Andrew McCall is as the Atoka, Okla. native hails from
about 150 miles from Boone Pickens Stadium.

The 6-0, 220-pound linebacker saw action in one game last season, but held his redshirt season in tact while starring on the practice squads, three times being recognized as a practice player of the week.

He was a standout at Atoka, finishing his senior season with 128 tackles and chose to walk-on at OSU despite having offers from other institutions.
