🔼 Vik-torious Weekend. The best smile in golf got a little bigger on Sunday.

In the midst of a career year, Viktor Hovland took it to another level on Sunday at the BMW Championships. Playing for positioning in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Hovland fired a 61(!!!) to set a course record and claim the top spot at the event.

He finished at 17-under for the tournament, two ahead of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and fellow European Matt Fitzpatrick. He shot a 28 on the back nine and carded 12 threes for his final round. He drilled 7️⃣ birdies on the back nine.

For the former Cowboy, it was his second PGA Tour of the season and fifth of his young career.

🔼 Captain Clutch. When a team is chasing just its second playoff appearance in 10 seasons. Every single game is important.

When you’re facing another possible playoff team, intensity is ratcheted up even more.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand didn’t care about any of those factors as he stepped up and delivered the fireworks (literally) for the Cincinnati Reds with a walk-off solo shot for a critical 1-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.

Since his call-up, CES has played in 30 games, hitting .262 with four HRs and 15 RBIs.

The Reds currently sit one game back of a National League Wild Card spot.

🔼 Primetime Pokes. With the NFL season right around the corner, plenty of former Pokes are doing all they can to earn their spot on the regular season roster.

Not too shabby of a showing for Jaylen Warren and James Washington we’d have to say, huh?

🔼 Bears World Wide. Traveling overseas is a common summertime activity.

Some former and current OSU track & field athletes are doing just that, but this time, it’s not for touring, it’s for putting their talents on display at the World Athletics Championships.

The games began on Saturday, August 19 and will run through next Sunday, August 27th.

World Champion Chase Ealey (Shot Put) will attempt to defend her world title on Saturday, Aug. 26, after becoming the first American woman to win world title in the event last summer. Ealey is also currently the top-ranked woman in the world in the Shot Put heading into the championships, tied with Canada's Sarah Mitton atop the World Athletics Leaderboards.

Joining Ealey in Budapest in the USA camp are former Cowgirl national champions Sinclaire Johnson (1,500m) and Kaela Edwards (800m).

Current Cowgirl Gabija Galvydyte (800m) qualified for the world championships after winning her seventh career national title in July. Galvydyte broke Johnson's school record in the 800 Meters at the European Athletics Team Championships in June and has finished runner-up and third at the last two NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800 Meters.

Joining Galvydyte for Team Lithuania is Leva Zarankaite (Discus Throw), who threw for OSU from 2014-17 and was a second-team All-American in 2017.

🔼 Tamed By The Bears. After a big season-opening win on Thursday, the OSU soccer team hit the road for a tough test against a perennial NCAA Tournament contender in Missouri State.

Logan Heausler scored her second goal in as many games, but the Bears pulled out a back-and-forth 2-1 battle over the Cowgirls.

OSU is back at home this week when they host Florida Atlantic at Patterson Stadium at 7 p.m.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Fifth in 1989.

Last year’s fourth place finish topped 1989’s fifth-place finish by one spot.

Last year was also the highest placement in the Coach Smith era, beating out the seventh-place national finish in 2015 by the Cowgirls.

🤠 Have a great Monday, y’all!
