Know Thy Opponents
2️⃣ Dallas Baptist is the No. 2 seed and brings a 45-14 record on the season into town, not to mention quite a bit of firepower. Five of their starters are batting over .300 on the season and five have hit double-digit home runs this year.
3️⃣ Washington is the No. 3 seed and they’re 34-18 on the year, thanks in large part to leadoff hitter Jonah Cox who is hitting .422 on the year. (Keep an eye out for stolen bases too—the Huskies are hitting an 86.7% success rate on 106 attempts.)
4️⃣ Oral Roberts is the No. 4 seed after winning the Summit League (and 46 games along the way) because of some stellar pitching. All three of their aces on the mound are under a 3.50 ERA and their top two relievers in Cade Denton and Jacob Widener are averaging a combined 1.47 strikeouts per inning.
🔼 A Friend From The North. Help is on the way. Oklahoma State's women's basketball team has bolstered its roster with another Big 12 veteran—former Kansas standout Chandler Prater. She brings with her 86 games played over three campaigns for Kansas.
This past season, the 5-11 guard saw action in 35 games while making 33 starts. Prater averaged 9.5 points per game and was the Jayhawks' second-leading rebounder at 6.0 boards per contest for their WNIT title-winning squad.
🔼 Looking Forward. Jonas Baumgartner posted a 54-hole total of 218 over the weekend at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship to stand in a tie for 68th place at Grayhawk Golf Club to end his season.
After an opening 78 on Friday, the junior shot up the leaderboard on Saturday at the par-70, 7,289-yard layout, posting a 68 to climb 75 spots into a tie for 67th. His 2-under tally was tied for the third-best round of the day. Starting his second round on the back nine, he made the turn in even-par 35 before moving to 3-under with birdies at the first, sixth and eighth.
Sunday's round once again saw, the Cowboy start his day on the back nine. After opening with a pair of bogeys, he would turn in 4-over 39. However, he would bounce back with three consecutive birdies at the third, fourth and fifth before ultimately coming home in 2-under 33.
🔼 The Final Leg. A pair of Cowgirls punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships with their performances at the NCAA West Prelims Saturday in Sacramento, Calif.
Billah Jepkirui finished third against some of the top middle-distance runners in the nation in the first heat of the 1,500 Meters. Despite losing a shoe with 200 meters remaining, she finished the tightly-contested race, where all five automatic qualifiers finished within one second of each other, with a personal best outdoor time at 4:12.39.
Gabija Galvydyte clinched their spots in their respective events with automatic qualifying marks in the 1,500 Meters and 800 Meters, respectively, headlined by a convincing heat victory in the 800 Meters with a 2:02.99 finish, a season best for her. After the first lap, she turned on the burners for the quickest final lap of the heat to take the top spot.
