Legendary Cowboy, Walt Garrison, Passes Away

Good Morning Pokes. There aren’t many people that bled the Orange and Black more than Walt Garrison.

He was a Cowboy through and through. In every aspect of his life, he embodied what it meant to be a Cowboy and he did so with dignity and respect.

This week, we lost one of the best, plain and simple.

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew! Check it out below!

🎥 OSU MAX: THE RIDE

After falling to Kansas State 48-0 in 2022, Oklahoma State looked to get redemption against the Wildcats on a Blackout Friday in Boone Pickens Stadium.

The Cowboys were also trying to stop a two game losing streak.

Go inside the bye week and hear from the Cowboys on the team coming together to get the big win.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 RIP Cowboy. If you look up the definition of a “cowboy” in Webster’s, you might find a picture of Walt Garrison.

Garrison, who was an All-American here at OSU and a future Super Bowl Champion with the Dallas Cowboy, passed away this week at the age of 79.

After growing up in Lewisville, Texas, Garrison arrived at Oklahoma State in the fall of 1962 and played football for the Cowboys from then through the 1965 season. His junior year in 1964, Garrison led the Big Eight in rushing with 730 yards, beating out Jim Grisham and Gale Sayers, and was named to the conference all-academic team.

During his senior year in 1965 he was named to the All-Big Eight team after finishing the season with 924 rushing yards, 107 receiving yards and five touchdowns, and he helped the Cowboys defeat the Sooners for the first time in twenty years in the last game of his OSU career.

Following his career in Stillwater, Garrison was selected by Dallas in the fifth round of the 1966 NFL Draft and played a nine-year NFL career entirely with the Cowboys, winning the Super Bowl in 1972 and playing a vital role on the team in each year of his career. He retired from Dallas as the third-leading rusher and fourth-leading receiver in team history.

He was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 and in 2000 he was inducted into the Oklahoma State Athletics Hall of Honor. He was also named to the Dallas Cowboys' 25th anniversary team and was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

🔼 Tussle With The Top-10. OSU’s futbol schedule isn’t getting any easier any time soon.

Searching for a breakthrough, the Cowgirls face a tough weekend with two top-10 teams visiting Stillwater. First was #8 BYU last night with the Cougars battling their way to a 3-0 win over OSU.

Sunday, the Orange and Black return to the pitch searching to break through a scoring drought when they host #6 Texas Tech.

🔼 Mr. Versatility. Not sure if Rashod Owens was a big Karate Kid fan, but he definitely learned from Mr. Miyagi. Patience pays off.

Owens, a redshirt junior for the Cowboys, is in his fourth season in Stillwater and throughout his journey, there’s been ups, downs, speedbumps and everything in between.

But this year, his versatility, persistence and dedication is paying off for not just Owens, but the Orange and Black as a whole.

🏈 HAWK HUNTING

Same energy. Same effort. Same place.

Coming off last Friday’s thrilling home win over Kansas State, the Cowboys are back at a sold-out BPS this weekend when the 23rd-ranked Jayhawks of Kansas come to town.

Nick Martin, Cameron Epps and the defense will have its hands full as Kansas is coming off a 51-22 home win over UCF and is averaging nearly 38 points per game.

🎥 OSU MAX: 2️⃣4️⃣ DAYS AWAY

Today marks 2️⃣4️⃣ days til the start of the 2023-24 OSU hoops seasons and what better way to celebrate than by getting a more in-depth look at who will be wearing #24 for the Cowboys this year, Isaiah Miranda.

Miranda gives us a look into the type of player he is, what landed him in Stillwater and why he’s excited to be a part of the Orange and Black.
