More on that story, even more All-America accolades pour in, and tailgating season continues to get closer.

Man, the waiting is the hardest part, isn’t it?

What better way to get through the waiting than breaking down the upcoming football schedule with two former Cowboys?

Deion Imade and Clint Chelf are back in the latest edition of the Old Pokes Show with a great discussion about the upcoming year at Boone Pickens and maybe even some predictions on this weekend’s U.S. Open.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Six Ways To Sunday. One of the toughest weeks in golf is underway with the start of the 2023 U.S. Open yesterday morning at the Los Angeles Country Club.

Six former Cowboys are vying for the top spot with Viktor Hovland, Rickie Fowler, Sam Stevens, Alex Noren, Wyndham Clark and Austin Eckroat all in action this weekend.

After Thursday’s opening round, four of the six are in the top-25, including Fowler (-8) and Clark (-6) who are in the top-three on the leaderboard.

In total, the group has seven top-20 finishes at previous U.S. Open, including Fowler, who has finished in the top-20 four times in his pro career. Fowler’s best finish at the event is a second-place finish in 2014.

🔼 Honors Pouring In. Don’t close that trophy case up just yet. The OSU baseball team is still having honors pour in with Nolan Schubart and Isaac Stebens nothing being named to the 2023 NCBWA All-America Third Team team.

Schubart was named to the team as an outfielder, while Stebens earned a spot as a relief pitcher. With the duo being honored, OSU now counts 136 All-America honors in its program's storied history. (That’s a lot for those counting at home…)

Nolan Schubart was the 2023 Big 12 Conference Co-Newcomer of the Year and an All-Big 12 First Team performer. He ranked in the top-10 in the league in eight offensive categories. He posted a .338 batting average this season to go along with 20 doubles, 17 homers and 74 RBIs.

Isaac Stebens blossomed into a star out of the bullpen in his first season with his hometown team. He led the Big 12 with a 2.24 ERA, and he posted a 4-1 record and six saves in a team-high 28 appearances this season. In 64 1/3 innings, Stebens racked up 85 strikeouts, which ranked seventh in the conference.

🔼 50 Dates. No, we’re not talking about the Adam Sandler romantic comedy. We are just 50 days away from the start of the 2023 OSU football training camp. Let’s get the tailgating menus started. Fall at Boone Pickens is right around the corner.

🔼 Speaking of Dates. Another date to put in the calendar—Saturday, October 14. That’s when OSU legend Terry Miller will officially be etched in Cowboy football history forever.

On that date, Miller will receive one of the truly great honors in program history when he becomes the fourth member of the Cowboy Football Ring of Honor. The two-time All-American will join the esteemed group of Thurman Thomas, Barry Sanders, and Bob Fenimore.

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 78 DAYS

Barry Sanders.
Hart Lee Dykes.
Mike Gundy.

Now THAT’S some firepower.

That legendary trio led the 1988 Oklahoma State football team to a 11-2 record and a win in the Holiday Bowl. It also led to a program-record 78 touchdowns that season.

That record stood for 23 seasons until the 2011 squad surpassed it with 81 on the season.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Bob Tway

In the long, storied history of OSU golf, Tway is the only Cowboy to win a major tournament when he took home the top prize at the 1986 PGA Championship.

Tway’s 8-under was two shots better than Greg Norman, who had led the tournament through the first three rounds. Tway’s six-under, 64 in the third round vaulted him into contention on Championship Sunday. He holed an improbable birdie on the 18th hole to come away with the win.

Have a great weekend fellow Pokes!
