Oklahoma State was the only school to offer Robin Ventura a scholarship coming out of high school. And his decision to play for the Cowboys was a no brainer.

But it wasn’t until his junior year in Stillwater that he realized he might actually have a future in baseball.

He won an Olympic Gold with Team USA in the ’88 games. The White Sox took him 10th overall in the MLB Draft. In 1989, he made his Major League debut. Ventura played 16 years of professional baseball. He was a two-time All-Star and won six gold gloves and he’s been an MLB manager—grown from playing with his idols to becoming an idol for so many.

His secret to having a successful career? Keep a level head and just play ball.

🔼 The W is for Wyndham. "Oklahoma State is really where I shaped a lot of my golf game.”

On Sunday, he etched his name in golf history becoming a Major champion for the first time in his career with a victory at the 2023 US Open, holding off one of golf’s all-time greats, Rory McIlroy, down the stretch for the win.

Clark spent four years in Stillwater, including leading the Cowboys to National Runner-Ups in 2014, earning Big 12 Player of the Year honors and All-American status that season.

After losing his mother during his first year at OSU, he ultimately ended up making the decision to transfer and finish his career at Oregon.

Back in the fall, Clark added this, "I have always been partial to Oklahoma State and really do feel like I am a Cowboy. It is unique because I did go to two schools, but I spent more time here and made more friends and lasting relationships here, so I have always been a Poke and always will be."

As we always say, once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy.

Congrats Wyndham!

🔼 California Dreamin’. One school. One golf program. That’s how many colleges had four alums in the top-20 at this past weekend’s US Open, one of golf’s toughest majors.

Along with Clark winning the major, Rickie Fowler was near the top of the leaderboard all weekend long, finishing t-5th with a 5-under on the weekend. It’s the eighth top-five finish in a major for Fowler.

In just his second-ever Major appearance, Austin Eckroat blistered the course for the second-best round on Sunday (65, 5-under-par) en route to a 3-under, 277 and 10th-place finish on the weekend.

Mr. Steady, Viktor Hovland, finished with a even scored, 280 to finish 19th in the tournament. Hovland has now finished in the top-20 in seven times at Majors, including three of the past four finishes inside the top-10.

🔼 Dailey Dose. We hope incoming freshman Eric Dailey Jr. has his passport updated.

The 6-8 forward from Bradenton, Fla. was among a group of 30 invitees who took part in USA Basketball's training camp in Colorado Springs and one of just 12 selected for the final roster.

He will be joined by OSU head coach Mike Boynton Jr., who is serving as an assistant coach on the Team USA staff.

The consensus four-star recruit was part of gold medals squads at the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas and the 2021 3x3 U18 World Cup (also in Hungary), also winning the slam dunk contest at the latter.

Dailey is looking to become the fifth Cowboy in the last decade to win gold at the event, joining Marcus Smart (2013), Jawun Evans (2015), Isaac Likekele (2019) and Cade Cunningham (2019).

🔼 Nolan’s Accolades > CVS Receipts. We didn’t think anything could be longer than a CVS Receipt. Boy were we wrong.

That goes on top of All-America nods from Collegiate Baseball and NCBWA. In addition, he was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, the NCBWA and Perfect Game/Rawlings.

After posting a .338 batting average with 20 doubles, 17 homers and 74 RBIs, Schubart was named the Big 12 Conference Co-Newcomer of the Year and was an All-Big 12 First Team honoree. He ranked in the top-10 in the conference in eight offensive categories.

🤠 ONCE A COWBOY, ALWAYS A COWBOY

There were so many special moments from this weekend’s US Open, but this one we had to share.

When we talk about the OSU Cowboy family, this is exactly what we mean.

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 75 DAYS

The year? 2021.
The date? September 18.
Location? Boise, Idaho

With the Cowboys down 10-0 early in the first half, newcomer Jaylen Warren took a handoff and blazed through the Boise State defense on his way to a 75-yard touchdown to spark OSU to a 21-20 road win and a 12-2 season.

Warren went on to have a monster year en route to Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and is currently a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

That touchdown? Longest rush of the entire 2021 season by any Cowboy.

🤔 COWBOY TRIVIA

With 74 RBIs in 2023, Nolan Schubart tied the most by an OSU player since Tyler Mach’s 81 in 2007.

Neither one of those come close to the all-time single season record by a Cowboy, which came from one of the all-time greats.

Do you know which OSU legend holds the record with an eye-popping 143 RBIs in a single-season?

And don’t worry, those 143 single-season RBIs aren’t just a OSU record, that’s an NCAA record!

“Inky” had quite a special season in 1985 when he hit .464 with 48 home runs and 143 RBIs in just 75 games!

Let’s have a great week ya’ll!
