Cowgirls Win Bedlam On the Pitch

Top of the Morning Cowboys and Cowgirls. Nine straight. There’s no other words we have to say.

The Cowgirls put on a display in front of one of the largest crowds in program history and extended their Bedlam unbeaten streak to nine. That’s right, not a single member of the current team has ever lost to the Sooners.

And oh yeah, that Ollie Gordon guy is pretty good too.

What all do we have stirring in today’s Brew! Check it out below!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 On Cloud Nine. With time ticking down and one of the largest crowds in program history on the edge of their seats, senior Alex Morris decided to have her moment.

In the 82nd minute, Wilson stepped up and blasted a shot from just outside the box into the upper right corner to lift the Cowgirls futbol squad to a thrilling 1-0 victory in the 2023 edition of Bedlam.

OSU is now 31-9-5 all-time against the Sooners and have not lost to OU in the past nine meetings dating back to 2018.

With the victory, the Cowgirls clinched the #7 seed in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament and will face-off again with Oklahoma, the 10th seed, on Saturday at 3:30 pm in Round Rock.

🔼 Double Down. Come on, like we really didn’t know this was coming?

After that performance on Saturday, OG2’s name was already getting printed on the certificate for this week’s Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award.

Ollie Gordon II earned his second straight weekly honor after his historic display against WVU.

The sophomore standout rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries (9.7 yards per carry) in the road win. The performance marked the most rushing yards for an FBS player in a game this season.

Three of his touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, coming on 16-, 46- and 53-yard rushes. Gordon had five runs that gained more than 25 yards, with his longest carries on the day going for 53, 46, 34, 32, and 27 yards.

🔼 Worldwide Cowboys. While many college students are heading to classes this morning, a pair of Cowboys are preparing to take on the world… literally.

Dustin Plott and Sammy Alvarez begin their quest for golds at the U23 World Championships, starting today in Tirana, Albania.

Plott, a senior, will be competing in the 79 kg division for the United States World Team. He received a bye into the round of 16 and will face the winner of Japan's Masaki Sato and Canada's Connor Church.

In the 65 kg division, Alvarez, a transfer from Rutgers in his first year at OSU, will represent Puerto Rico for the second consecutive year. In the first round, he will face Team USA's Brock Hardy, who was an NCAA All-American at Nebraska this past season.

Both the 65 kg and 79 kg brackets open this morning. Qualification and semifinal rounds will commence on Tuesday, with repechage and medal matches taking place on Wednesday.

🔼 As Smooth As Tennessee… Another tournament, another Cowgirl title.

This past weekend, Ayumi Miyamoto defeated her Oklahoma State teammate Lucia Peyre in the singles final of the ITF Jackson 15k pro circuit event in Jackson, Tenn.

Miyamoto becomes the second Cowgirl to both win her respective tournament and beat a teammate in the final within a week. Ange ObyKajuru and Anastasiya Komar met in the final of the ITA Central Regional Championships on Tuesday, with Kajuru coming out on top.

🏈 ROLLIN’ ON THE ROAD

Even a rainy, cold Saturday on the road can’t slow down “Flash” Gordon.

Ollie Gordon II continued his historic run (pun intended) with a monster day against WVU. The sophomore finished with a career-high 282 yards and four TDs in a thrilling 48-34 victory over the Mountaineers.

Alan Bowman threw for 210 yards and two TDs, including a critical one late in the game to Brennan Presley.

Defensively, the trio of Nick Martin, Collin Oliver and Kendal Daniels combined for 38 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The defensive unit has now forced eight turnovers during the current three-game win streak.
